eiConsole Tutorial Basic

Using Listeners (Adapters)

In the eiConsole, a “Listener” is a type of adapter. Its task is very straightforward. The Listener obtains data from a particular system or source and creates a transaction from it. This transaction is then passed along through the various functional stages of the eiConsole. A system’s requirements generally dictate the type of Listener (or communications protocol) you need to use. When configuring a route, you’ll need to select a Listener that is appropriate to the Source System that you are trying to connect and retrieve data from.

In the eiConsole, to configure a Listener, you select the Listener stage in the eiConsole Assembly Line. You then choose from a drop-down menu of available Listener types and fill out the corresponding panel. Out-of-the-box, the eiConsole comes with a large variety of Listener types that can meet virtually any requirement.

Note: To view all of the eiConsole (40+) Listeners, click Available Listener Types.

Using Listeners in the eiConsole

Select the Listener icon from the main route grid. The Listener Configuration tab will appear at the bottom of your screen.

Select the Listener or Adapter to be Configured in the eiConsole.

Select the Listener type that is most appropriate to your Source System from the list provided. For example, here we have selected Directory/File.

Select the Type of Listener or Adapter.

Once a Listener type is selected, you will see a set of configuration panels displayed. In this case, the options are Basic, Advanced, Transaction Logging, Inactivity, Throttling, Post-Process, Scheduling, Criteria, and Sorting.

Configure the Message Route Listener or Adapter

Each type of Listener will have its own set of configuration settings which must be filled in after selecting the appropriate Listener. These settings are presented on a set of tabs with the required elements marked by a red dot.

Individual Listeners or Adapters will have different configuration options.

Note the differences in the configuration settings between the Email (POP3/IMAP Listener (above) and the FTP/SFTP Listener (below). For the Email Listener, a Polling interval and Server are required fields. For the FTP Listener, a Polling Directory, as well as a Host, must be specified.
